Prof. Hirokazu Kawagishi, PhD, To Present “amyloban”, An Anti-Dementia Breakthrough From Lion’s Mane Mushrooms At A4M Conference

East Rutherford, NJ - December 11, 2009 -- Renowned mycologist Prof. Hirokazu Kawagishi, PhD, presented"amyloban, The Mane for Your Brain," a major address on the anti-dementia potential of extracts from Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceum) mushrooms, at the 17th Annual World Congress on Anti-Aging Medicine & Regenerative Biomedical Technologies (A4M), to be held from December 9th – 12th, 2009 at the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada.

Professor Kawagishi's presentation took place on Friday, December 11th, at 7am, and despite the Early Bird time slot, over 150 practitioners were in attendance. A4M is a preeminent global integrative medicine and anti-aging conference attended by over 4,000 doctors, researchers and practitioners.

Amyloban is a patented Lion's Mane active fraction discovered by a research team led by Professor Kawagishi, Shizuoka University, Japan and Cun Zhuang, PhD., Vice-President of Research & Development for Mushroom Wisdom, Inc. (formerly Maitake Products, Inc.), East Rutherford, New Jersey.  (Japanese patent 394,3399).  Results from studies conducted by Professor Kawagishi indicate that Amyloban inhibits the toxicity of plaques containing amyloid beta peptide (AβP).  Since it is known that AβP causes neuron destruction characteristic of Alzheimer's disease, Professor Kawagishi believes that amyloban has the potential to exert a protective effect on brain cells.*

In earlier research, Professor Kawagishi discovered a new class of Lion's Mane compounds called hericenones, the first natural, non animal-based substances found to stimulate production of Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) in the brain.  Both amyloban and hericenones are contained in Amyloban® 3399, a breakthrough brain support supplement available from Mushroom Wisdom.*

"Brain cell protection and regeneration are essential for mental clarity as we age," said Michael Shirota, Mushroom Wisdom President & CEO.  "We believe that Professor Kawagishi's research and our resultant development of Amyloban® 3399 are important steps in the war on Alzheimer's and other neurological diseases."

Professor Kawagishi's study is part of extensive mycological research supported by Mushroom Wisdom, Inc.  The company has sponsored important studies on the health and wellness impact of medicinal mushrooms in association with teams from leading universities and medical centers including Shizuoka University, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York Medical College and Georgetown University.  The company's Maitake D-Fraction® tincture has received IND (Investigational New Drug) approval from the FDA for Phase II clinical studies on advanced breast and prostate cancer patients.

Mushroom Wisdom, Inc.
