Maitake Products, Inc. announced today that Dr. Cun Zhuang, Ph.D. has been promoted to Vice President of Research & Development. Dr. Zhuang has been involved with the new product development for the company since 1998 and has made a tremendous contribution by launching a series of top-selling products including Maitake D-Fraction®, SX-Fraction® and 14 products under the Mushroom Wisdom® line. Among others, SX-Fraction® was a new invention made by Dr. Zhuang and has established its credential as the second flagship product (after Maitake D-Fraction®) for the company.

 

The glycoprotein contained in SX-Fraction® was eventually awarded a US Patent (No.7,214,778) as an agent with antidiabetic, antihypertensive, antiobesity and antihyperlipidemic effects. The standardized extract of SX-Fraction® (PSX-Fraction™) is now being sold as an ingredient for products formulated to target Metabolic Syndrome and has gained a keen attention in the market.

 

Dr. Zhuang graduated from China Pharmaceutical University in 1982 and obtained his M.S.degree at Shizuoka University and Ph.D. at Gifu University in Japan respectively. He studied biochemistry under Dr. Mizuno and Dr. Kawagishi at Shizuoka University both of whom are well-known as experts of medicinal mushrooms. After working for the Food and Drug Administration in China about 8 years, Dr. Zhuang joined Maitake Products in 1997.

He has published more than 40 research papers and is regarded as one of the leading bio-chemists in the mushroom industry of this country.
