Maitake Products, Inc., after many years of research and development with an active glycoprotein of Maitake mushroom, has officially been granted a U.S Patent. Maitake Products, Inc., along with the inventors, has been awarded U.S. Patent No. 7,214,778 for "Glycoprotein with Anti-diabetic, Anti-hypertensive, Anti-obesity and Anti-hyperlipidemic Effects from Grifola Frondosa, and a Method for Preparing Same."
Searching for a novel substance from Maitake mushroom that may explain the benefit of Maitake for healthy blood glucose levels, Dr. Cun Zhuang of Maitake Products, Inc. has conducted a collaborative study with acclaimed researchers at prominent research facilities in both the U.S. and Japan, namely, Dr. Harry Preuss of Georgetown University, Dr. Hirokazu Kawagishi of Shizuoka University (Japan), and Dr. Sensuke Konno of New York Medical College. Their efforts finally bore fruits as they have successfully identified and isolated a unique glycoprotein (protein conjugated with carbohydrates) from Maitake mushroom.
The active glycoprotein, referred to as SX-fraction by the scientists, helps maintain healthy blood sugar levels, healthy blood pressure, healthy body weight and healthy serum cholesterol levels.
